About Stormwater Management
The Phase II MS4 general permit requires the MS4 (The Town of Camp Verde) to develop and fully implement a stormwater management program (SWMP) that contains appropriate management practices in each of the six minimum control measure categories, see categories below. Actions taken to decrease the discharge of pollutants can be found in the Stormwater Management Program (SWMP) document prepared by the Town of Camp Verde and posted on the Town's website.
Stormwater Master Plan (SWMP)
The Town of Camp Verde contains one of the last Arizona year-round flowing rivers: the Verde River. Within the Camp Verde Town limits, the Verde River watershed includes Beaver Creek and Clear Creek. The Town, through adoption of a Storm Water Management Plan (SWMP), strives to reduce the discharge of pollutants into our surface water systems by working to protect and satisfy appropriate water quality requirements of the Clean Water Act. The Town will periodically publish updates to the website that address implementation of Best Management Practices (BMP’s) and measurable goals. We are always looking to improve our SWMP and will provide new versions as they become available. In the spirit of Public Participation, we invite and encourage the public to review the SWMP and contact us with any suggestions or comments.
Minimum Control Measures (MCM):
MCM 1: Public Education & Outreach
Keeping our rivers clean takes a community, so it's vital that the public is educated on what they can do to more positively impact the health of local streams, rivers, and waterways. We participate in many programs, including the Verde Valley Water Festival (formerly Project WET) and the Cliff Castle Casino Earth Day Celebration. We even headed up a Summer Camp Adventures with Stormwater program with Parks & Recreation in 2024.
MCM 2: Public Involvement & Participation
The purpose of MCM 2 is to garner public support for the prevention, location, identification, reporting, mitigation, and removal of illicit discharges - anything other than stormwater - into the Town of Camp Verde Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4). If you see something draining into a stormwater drain or street that is not stormwater, please contact us. It takes a team to keep our rivers clean. Thank you for supporting us and doing your part!
MCM 3: Illicit Discharge Detection Elimination Program
The purpose of MCM 3 is to identify and manage contaminated materials released into our storm drain system as early as possible.
MCM 4: Construction Activity Stormwater Runoff Control
Manage earth-disturbing work to prevent erosion, trap sediment, and stop pollutants from washing into local waterways through: 1. Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans 2. Town Erosion Policies
MCM 5: Post-Construction Stormwater Management in New and Re-Development
Manage post-construction work to prevent and reduce pollutant runoff and ensure stormwater drainage system maintenance.
MCM 6: Pollution Prevention & Good Housekeeping for Municipal Operations
Manage Town owned facilities and operations to prevent and reduce pollutant runoff.
