Construction or work for which a permit is required shall be subject to inspection by the Building Official or designated individual and such construction or work shall remain accessible and exposed for inspection purposes until approved. Neither the Building Official, designated individual nor the jurisdiction shall be liable for expense entailed in the removal or replacement of any material required to allow inspection.
It shall be the duty of the permit holder to provide an approved property address, including number and street name at all construction sites. Such temporary premises identification shall be clearly visible from the street or roadway fronting the property, shall be installed prior to the first inspection, and shall be maintained until the permanent premises identification is installed and approved.
Work requiring a permit shall not commence until the permit holder or an agent of the permit holder has posted or otherwise made available the inspection record card to allow the Building Official or authorized agent to conveniently make the required entries thereon regarding inspections of the work. The permit holder shall maintain the card available until final approval, by the Building Official, has been granted. Town Code Chapter 7, Article 7-2, Section 7-2-106 outlines required inspections, although additional inspections may be required at the discretion of the Building Official.
Applicants assume responsibility for requesting inspections to ensure permits do not expire, which includes providing at least 24 business hours notice of such request to the Building Safety Division.
Request an Inspection
Inspection requests may be submitted online through the GovWell Online Services portal or by phone through the Building Safety Division. All inspection requests are subject to inspector availability and the existing inspection schedule.

Customers may also request an inspection by contacting the Building Safety Division directly during business hours. After business hours, customers may leave a voicemail requesting an inspection.
When leaving a voicemail, please provide the following information:
- Permit number
- Owner name
- Project address
- Contractor name and phone number
- Type of inspection requested
- Requested inspection date

The assigned scheduler will review the information provided and verify availability. If the requested date or time is unavailable, a team member will contact the requestor with available alternatives.
Weekend Inspection Requests
Inspection requests received after close of business on Thursday through the opening of business on Monday will be reviewed when the office opens on Monday morning.
Weekend requests are subject to inspector availability and the existing inspection schedule. The assigned scheduler(s) will schedule available inspections, and a confirmation notice will be sent to the applicant through GovWell. If the permit is associated with an older application that is not available in the GovWell system, the assigned scheduler will follow up with the requestor by phone upon receiving the request.
If the requested inspection cannot be accommodated because the schedule is full, a team member will contact the requestor to provide alternative dates and/or times. The inspection will be scheduled once an acceptable option has been confirmed.
Important to Know
